Purpose
Settings > Preferences holds the company-wide choices that shape what employees can see and do in UZIO. Each preference is a Yes/No switch (one is a number). Examples: whether employees see your benefit contributions, whether they can change their own bank details, and whether you can sign a document on an employee's behalf. Most "can we hide or allow X for our employees?" questions are answered on this page.
Who can do this: the Employer Administrator, or a user whose custom role grants Settings under Company Access. See Understanding Roles and Access.
When to use this
- During implementation, to set how the Employee Portal behaves before employees register.
- When you add a module (payroll, documents, time tracking) and need to decide what employees may do in it themselves.
- When HR policy changes, for example locking payment-method changes to HR only.
Preferences are company-wide. If you need a rule for one group of employees only, look at role permissions or the module's own settings instead.
Edit preferences
- Go to Settings in the left navigation. The Preferences tab opens (the other tabs are Custom Fields, Pay Groups, Event Rules and Automated Events).
- Click Edit.
- Set each preference, then click Update. Cancel discards your changes.
The list below was captured on one live account in July 2026. Your account may show fewer or more preferences depending on the modules you use.
The preferences
| Preference | What it controls | Default |

| Keep the electronic form consent ON for the employees? | Whether employees' consent to sign forms electronically is on by default | Confirm on your account |
| Enforce 2-Step Verification for all employees? | Requires every employee to set up two-step verification at login. See Two-Factor Authentication | Confirm on your account |
| Allow your broker to use the Time Off, Schedule, Time Tracking, Projects and Jobs, and HR Features? | Whether your broker can work in your HR-side modules | Confirm on your account |
| Hide the details from Celebrations section on the employee portal? | Turns off birthdays and work anniversaries on the employee home page. See Celebrations | Confirm on your account |
| Hide the Organization Chart tab on employee portal? | Whether employees can open the org chart | No (shown) |
| Display the decision support tool for employees? | Whether the plan-recommendation questionnaire appears during benefits enrollment | Yes |
| How many calendar days should a special enrollment period be opened for a new hire? | Length of a new hire's benefits enrollment window, in calendar days | Confirm on your account |
| Hide My Payroll Section on the employee portal? | Removes the employee's payroll section (pay stubs, withholding, payment method) from the Employee Portal | Confirm on your account |
| Restrict your employees to add or change the payment method details? | Employees can no longer add or edit direct deposit details themselves; HR maintains them. See Submitting Direct Deposit | Confirm on your account |
| Use a blended/weighted rate for overtime wage calculation for multi-job rates scenarios? | How the overtime rate is calculated for an employee who works several jobs at different pay rates. Yes: overtime uses a weighted average of the employee's rates. No: overtime is not blended across jobs | Confirm on your account |
| Hide Upload Document(s) feature on the employee portal? | Whether employees can upload their own documents. See Viewing and Uploading Documents | Confirm on your account |
| Automatically generate the employee ID for new hires? | UZIO assigns the next employee ID instead of you typing one | Confirm on your account |
| Automatically generate job codes? | UZIO assigns job codes to job titles instead of you typing them. See Setting Up Company Master Information | Confirm on your account |
| Provide employees with expanded options, such as Gender Identity and Preferred Pronouns for them to add? | Adds gender identity and pronoun fields to employee profiles | Confirm on your account |
| Allow employers to sign or acknowledge the documents on behalf of the employees? | Lets an employer user who is impersonating an employee sign or acknowledge an assigned document for them. The user also needs the Employee Portal Impersonation permission on their role. See Managing the Document Library | No |
| Mandate the upload documents field on I-9 Form section 1? | Employees must upload their identity documents while completing Section 1 of Form I-9. See Clear I-9 | Confirm on your account |
Warning: These are company-wide switches, not per-employee settings. Setting "Restrict payment method details" or "Hide My Payroll Section" to Yes affects every employee at once. Tell employees before you change them.
What happens after you save
Changes apply to the whole company. Employees do not receive a notification. Whether a change also applies to the UZIO Mobile App has not been confirmed for every preference; if a mobile view still shows a section you hid, ask UZIO Support.
Common problems
Employees can still see something I hid. Confirm the preference saved as Yes (open Edit again and check). Ask the employee to sign out and back in. If it persists on the web, contact UZIO Support with the preference name and a screenshot from the employee's view.
A manager cannot see the Preferences page. Preferences is part of Settings, which is a company-level permission. Reporting Managers do not have it by default. Grant Settings on a custom role, or make the change yourself. See Managing Users and Roles.
I want to sign a document for an employee but there is no option. Two things must be true: this page has "Allow employers to sign or acknowledge the documents on behalf of the employees" set to Yes, and your role includes Employee Portal Impersonation. Then impersonate the employee and complete the document from their view.
Still stuck?
Please reach out to us at support@uzio.com or call +1-571-601-1752. Include the preference name exactly as shown on the page, the value you set, when you saved it, and a screenshot of what the employee still sees.
