Legacy notice: existing customers only. New customers use UZIO's native E-Verify, in which UZIO acts as your E-Verify Employer Agent and no third-party account is needed. Start with E-Verify Overview and Enrollment. This article covers only the Clear I-9 vendor integration, which is no longer enabled for new customers. If your organisation was already connected to Clear I-9, it continues to work as described here.
Purpose
The Clear I-9 integration runs Form I-9 and E-Verify through a third-party Clear I-9 account. Employees complete Section 1 in Clear I-9, reached by single sign-on from UZIO. Employers complete Section 2 in Clear I-9. Clear I-9 submits the E-Verify case according to the worksite configuration you hold there, and sends the case status back to UZIO so you can see it alongside the employee record. This article covers connecting, mapping worksites, what to expect from the status feed, and how to tell whether you are on this path at all.
Who can do this: users with access to the Integrations page (typically the Employer Admin), plus a registered Clear I-9 account and its Customer ID (issued by Clear I-9 support).
DSP note: On Amazon Delivery Service Partner (DSP) accounts the Clear I-9 tile is not shown. DSP accounts use the native E-Verify module.
Which path am I on? Clear I-9 vs the native E-Verify module
UZIO supports two ways of running Form I-9 and E-Verify. Confirm which one you are on before following any instructions. The screens, the support route, and the articles are different.
| Clear I-9 integration (this article) | UZIO native E-Verify module | |
|---|---|---|
| Who has it | Existing customers who connected Clear I-9 before it was closed to new customers | All new customers; the current UZIO path |
| Third-party account | Required. You hold a Clear I-9 account and Customer ID | None. UZIO acts as your Web Service Employer Agent |
| Where the I-9 is completed | In Clear I-9, launched from UZIO | In UZIO, in the employee's own portal |
| Who submits the E-Verify case | Clear I-9, per your worksite configuration | UZIO, from the completed Form I-9 |
| Where case status appears | Synced back into UZIO for visibility | On the I-9 (E-Verify) document in UZIO |
| Where to get help | Clear I-9 support for the I-9 and E-Verify workflow; UZIO Support for the connection | UZIO Support for everything |
| Which articles apply | This article | E-Verify Overview and Enrollment and the rest of I-9 & E-Verify |
Not sure? If your Integrations page has a connected Clear I-9 tile with a Customer ID, you are on Clear I-9. If your employees complete Form I-9 inside UZIO and you see an I-9 (E-Verify) document with UZIO case statuses, you are on the native module.
What flows between UZIO and Clear I-9
| Direction | What moves | When |
|---|---|---|
| UZIO to Clear I-9 | The employee's I-9 task, with the mapped worksite, launched by single sign-on | When the I-9 is assigned and the employee or employer opens it |
| Clear I-9 to UZIO | Form I-9 and E-Verify case status events | As Clear I-9 processes the form and the case |
| Stays in Clear I-9 | The completed Form I-9 and supporting documents, the E-Verify case itself, worksite settings (including whether cases submit automatically), and reminders | Always. UZIO shows status; it does not hold the Clear I-9 form |
Set up the integration
- Open Integrations from the left menu and find the Clear I-9 tile (category Employment and Eligibility Verification).
- Click Connect. A popup explains: "Each company registered with Clear I-9 gets a unique Customer ID. To get your Customer ID, contact Clear I-9 support."
- Enter your Customer ID (letters, numbers, and hyphens only; up to 64 characters) and click Connect. UZIO ignores capitalisation and hyphens when it checks the ID with Clear I-9, so
ABC-123andabc123are the same ID. - On success the page shows "Successfully connected to your Clear I-9 account." and the tile shows Connected with a Manage button. Disconnect is a link inside the expanded tile. Connecting also registers the event notifications that keep statuses current in UZIO.
Map worksites
Mapping UZIO work locations to Clear I-9 worksites makes each employee's I-9 task inherit the right worksite configuration. Whether E-Verify submits automatically is a setting on the Clear I-9 worksite itself. UZIO passes the mapped worksite; it cannot see or change that setting.
- Click Manage on the Clear I-9 tile. The page states: "This page allows you to manage company work locations mapping between Uzio and Clear I-9." Every UZIO work location is listed with a dropdown of your Clear I-9 worksites.
- Map each UZIO location to a Clear I-9 worksite, or to None. None is the only option if you have not created worksites in Clear I-9. Worksites that are inactive on the Clear I-9 side may still appear, so pick carefully.
- Click Save.
Disconnect
Expand the Clear I-9 tile and click Disconnect. UZIO asks: "Are you sure you want to disconnect the integration with Clear I-9?" Click Yes; the page confirms "Successfully disconnected from your Clear I-9 account."
Warning: Disconnecting stops I-9 and E-Verify services through Clear I-9 and stops status updates. Your existing I-9 and E-Verify case data and history are kept in UZIO, not deleted. Reconnecting with the same Customer ID restores your previous worksite mapping.
How the workflow runs on Clear I-9
Assigning forms, Section 1, Section 2, E-Verify submission, statuses, the I-9 compliance dashboard, document storage, and rehire handling follow the same overall shape described in the native articles, with two differences for Clear I-9 customers:
- Section 1 and Section 2 open in the Clear I-9 platform by single sign-on rather than inside UZIO.
- Case reminders are managed within Clear I-9, not by UZIO's native reminder system.
For the shared workflow, see:
- Completing Section 1 of Form I-9
- Reviewing and Verifying Form I-9 (Section 2)
- E-Verify Case Statuses and Workflow
- E-Verify Automated Reminders applies to native customers only.
Rehires
For Clear I-9 customers, rehire handling (a new I-9 and case, or Supplement B (Reverification and Rehire) within three years when the previous case returned Employment Authorized) is performed in Clear I-9. For the current E-Verify rules, consult E-Verify's own guidance or your legal advisor.
Common problems
My Customer ID is rejected
Check the ID with Clear I-9 support; UZIO validates it against Clear I-9 at the moment you click Connect. Capitalisation and hyphens do not matter. If the popup rejects the entry before you can submit, it contains a character other than a letter, a number, or a hyphen.
Statuses in UZIO stopped updating
Status events come from Clear I-9's notifications, which are registered when you connect. Disconnect and reconnect with the same Customer ID to re-register them; your worksite mapping is restored. If statuses still do not arrive, the case may not have moved in Clear I-9; check there first.
A worksite is missing from the mapping dropdown
Worksites are created and activated in Clear I-9. Create it there, then reopen Manage in UZIO.
Which product am I actually on?
See the comparison table above. Following the native-module articles while on Clear I-9 (or the reverse) is the most common cause of confusion.
Still stuck?
Questions about the Form I-9 itself, a specific E-Verify case, worksite settings, or your Customer ID go to Clear I-9 support. Questions about what the law requires go to USCIS or your counsel.
If the Clear I-9 tile is missing, the connection fails after Clear I-9 has confirmed your Customer ID, or statuses are not reaching UZIO after reconnecting, please reach out to us at support@uzio.com or call +1-571-601-1752. Send your company name, the employee's UZIO Employee ID, the date the I-9 was assigned, and a screenshot of the Clear I-9 tile. Do not send images of identity documents.
