Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Modified on Mon, 14 Sep at 1:58 PM

Purpose

2-Step Verification (also called Two-Factor Authentication or 2FA) adds a second check at login: your password plus a six-digit code from your phone. It protects the payroll, Social Security numbers, and bank details your account can reach. 2FA is required on UZIO accounts. Amazon DSP platform accounts are currently excepted. Set it up as soon as you register.

Who needs this: every portal user, and urgently anyone with employer-portal access.

Before you start

  • Decide on a method. An authenticator app works without mobile signal and is the recommended option. Text message (SMS) needs a phone number that can receive texts.
  • Have your phone with you. Setup takes about two minutes.

Set it up

  1. Log in to UZIO, open your profile menu (top right), and choose Account Information.
  2. Select the 2-Step Verification tab.
  3. Re-enter your login credentials to confirm your identity.
  4. Pick a verification method.

Option A: Authenticator app (recommended)

  1. Install any authenticator app that supports time-based codes, for example Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
  2. In the app, scan the QR code UZIO displays.
  3. Enter the six-digit code the app shows and click Verify Code.

Option B: Text message (SMS)

  1. Select Text Message.
  2. Choose your country code, enter your mobile number, and click Send Code.
  3. Enter the six-digit code you receive to confirm the number.

What happens next: from your next login, UZIO asks for a code after your password. Tick Remember this browser for 30 days to skip the code on a computer only you use. Never tick it on a shared computer.

Before you lose your phone

Losing access to your 2FA method is the one login problem you cannot fix yourself. Reduce the risk now:

  • If you change phones, open Account Information > 2-Step Verification > Change on the old phone first and enrol the new one.
  • If you use SMS and your number is changing, update it the same way before the old number stops working.
  • If your authenticator app supports cloud backup, turn it on.

Managing 2FA

  • Change method or device: Account Information > 2-Step Verification > Change, then follow the prompts.
  • Remove 2FA: not available on standard accounts, because 2FA is required. On Amazon DSP platform accounts, which are currently excepted, Account Information > 2-Step Verification > Remove is available. UZIO strongly recommends keeping it on.
  • Require 2FA for all your employees: the Employer Administrator controls Enforce 2-Step Verification for all employees? under Settings > Preferences. UZIO switched this on for every existing company when the requirement was introduced. Check it is still on, and use it if your account is not covered by the platform-wide requirement. See Managing Employer Preferences.

DSP note: For Delivery Service Partner (DSP) accounts on the Amazon platform, 2FA is currently optional at the platform level, so the Remove option is available and the Settings > Preferences toggle is how a DSP can require it company-wide.

Mobile

Set up and manage 2FA in the web portal under Account Information. The UZIO Mobile App uses the same account, so keep your phone's authenticator app or SMS number available when signing in to the app.

Common problems

I've lost my phone, or I have a new phone and didn't move the authenticator

Neither your company admin nor your broker can remove or reset 2FA. Only UZIO Support can restore access. Go to Still stuck? and include the details listed there. Until then, a browser where you ticked Remember this browser may still let you in; use it to open 2-Step Verification > Change and enrol your new phone.

The authenticator code is rejected

Time-based codes depend on the phone's clock. In the phone's settings, set date, time, and time zone to automatic, then try the next code. Enter the code within its 30-second window.

The text message never arrives

Check the country code and number under 2-Step Verification. Make sure the phone has signal and is not blocking unknown senders. If SMS is unreliable where you work, switch to an authenticator app with Change.

I ticked "Remember this browser" but I'm asked for a code every time

The browser must keep its cookies. Private or incognito windows, a cleared cache, and some corporate browser policies drop the remembered state. Use a normal window on the same computer.

An employee asked me to remove their 2FA

You cannot. Company admins and broker partners cannot remove 2FA from an employee's account. Point the employee to this article. If they have lost their device, they contact UZIO Support themselves with the details under Still stuck?.
