Purpose
The Time Clocks tab controls how employees can clock in and out (web, the UZIO Mobile App, a shared kiosk) and the general rules that apply to every time entry: geofence restrictions, whether employees can edit their own time, whether notes are required, attestation, time display format, the missing clock-out flag, and the long-running-entry reminders.
When to use this: during first-time setup (step 6 of Time Tracking Setup and Configuration), and again whenever your punch policy changes, for example when you add a kiosk at a new site or start requiring notes on changes.
Who can do this: users with permission to manage Time Tracking settings (typically the Employer Admin).
Enabling time clocks
Open Time Tracking Settings and select the Time Clocks tab.

Mobile
Enable Mobile to let employees punch and manage their timesheet in the UZIO Mobile App. By default this works anywhere. Tighten it with the checkboxes that appear once Mobile is enabled:
- Restrict only clock in, only clock out, or only break in and break out
- Restrict clocking in outside the geofence
- Restrict clocking out outside the geofence
Geofences themselves are defined per work location; see Geofence Management.
Web
Enable Web for browser-based punching and timesheets. The same sub-restrictions appear once Web is enabled: restrict only clock in, only clock out, or only break in and break out.
Kiosk
Set up a shared punch device, ideally a tablet:
- Under Kiosk, click Add Kiosk.
- Enter the Kiosk Name (for example, the site name). Up to 50 characters; letters, numbers, and spaces only.
- Choose the Login Method:
- PIN: employees log in with a UZIO-issued PIN.
- Face Unlock or PIN: adds facial recognition. The device must have a camera and camera permission granted in the browser.
The login method is locked after the kiosk is created. To switch methods, add a new kiosk.
- Optionally enable Photo Security. A photo is captured and stored with each clock-in and clock-out.
- Activate the device. On the kiosk, open a browser to kiosk.uzio.com and read the Activation Code it displays. Enter that code in the kiosk setup form. The code is exactly 8 characters; anything else is rejected with "The code must be 8 characters long".

Once at least one kiosk exists, a kiosk break restriction appears. When enabled, break actions are hidden on every kiosk; only Clock In and Clock Out remain. Combine it with the mobile and web break settings to route punches and breaks to different platforms (for example, clock in and out on the kiosk, breaks in the app).
Note: Choosing Face Unlock or enabling Photo Security requires accepting UZIO's Biometric Policy and Terms of Use first. Your company is responsible for collecting employee consent for biometric and photo capture where your state requires it.
The employee-side kiosk experience, including Face Unlock enrolment, is in Using the Time Kiosk.
Kiosk PINs
- When PINs are issued. When the first kiosk is activated, every employee on time tracking receives a PIN by email. Employees added to time tracking later, while a kiosk exists, receive their PIN by email and SMS at that moment.
- Resending a PIN. Use the Send Kiosk PIN action on the employee's record. UZIO re-sends the employee's existing PIN to their registered email and phone. The action is available when the employee is on time tracking and at least one kiosk is configured.
- Viewing or resetting a PIN. On standard accounts, an employer user with timesheet access to the employee can view the current PIN and set a new one with the Reset Kiosk PIN action, optionally notifying the employee of the new PIN by email and SMS.
- Employee self-service. Employees can use Forgot PIN on the kiosk to have their existing PIN re-sent, and can set a new PIN themselves from the employee portal or the UZIO Mobile App.
DSP note: On Amazon Delivery Service Partner accounts, employer users cannot view or reset kiosk PINs. The PIN is masked on screen and the reset action is unavailable. Send Kiosk PIN (re-send the existing PIN) still works, and employees keep the self-service options above.
General settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Allow employees to add, edit and delete their time entries? | Yes/No. Whether employees can manually create, correct, or remove their own time entries instead of punching only. |
| Allow managers to review employee time entries? | Yes/No. Lets managers mark a time entry as reviewed from the timecard. The review is recorded in timesheet history for audit purposes. It is a review flag only; it does not restrict or replace payroll approval. |
| Require manager approval whenever an employee manually adds or edits a time entry. | Yes/No. Holds manual employee changes as pending until a reviewer accepts or rejects them. Pending changes do not count toward payroll and block approval of that employee's hours. See Reviewing and Correcting Your Team's Timesheets. |
| Employee notes required for time entry changes. | Forces a note whenever an employee adds or edits their own entry. Notes are stored in the history. Unread notes show an orange Notes icon for reviewers, turning grey after Mark as Read. Defaults to Mandatory for new customers. |
| Manager notes required for time entry changes (excludes accepting employee edits). | Forces a note whenever a manager or admin adds, edits, or deletes an entry, enters a missed clock-out time, acknowledges a missed break, or rejects an employee's change. Accepting an employee's change never requires a note. Defaults to Mandatory for new customers. |
| Show time entry change history to employees? | Yes/No. Whether employees can open the change history on their own entries. See Time Entry Audit Trail. |
| Require employees to attest the time entries? | Yes/No. Turns on time entry attestation at clock-out. See Requiring Employees to Attest Their Time Entries. |
| Enable employees to track time without an internet connection? | Yes/No. Offline punching in the UZIO Mobile App; entries sync when the device reconnects. Shown only when Mobile is enabled. See Enabling Offline Time Tracking on Mobile. |
| Time Display Format | 12-hour (02:15 pm) or 24-hour (14:15). Display only; calculations are unaffected. |
| Prevent employees from clocking in before [time] | Blocks clock-ins before a set time of day when the employee has no shift, or is clocking into an unscheduled shift. Applies on Mobile, Web, and Kiosk, respects work-location time zones, and works offline. |
| Flag missing clock out after ___ hours ___ minutes | After this long from clock-in, the entry is flagged Missing Clock Out. The employee or a reviewer can then enter the clock-out time, and the employee can start a new entry. Hours accept 8 to 100 ("Entry cannot be flagged as missing before 8 hours"; a decimal is rejected with "Please enter a whole number up to 100."); minutes accept 0 to 59 ("Please enter minutes between 0 and 59."). New customers start at 12 hours. Example: threshold 12 h, clock-in 9 AM, flagged at 9 PM. |
| Long-running time entry notifications | Two reminders, each set as hours + minutes, sent by Email, SMS, or Push. One goes to the employee and one to the manager, who can correct the entry on the employee's behalf. There is no seeded default; the reminders are off until you configure them. The first reminder must be at least 8 hours; the second must be later than the first ("Second reminder must be sent after first reminder"). Sample employee email: "You've been clocked in for more than 10 hours. You clocked in at 09:00 AM on 09/11/2025. If you forgot to clock out, please log in to correct your timesheet." SMS and Push carry the one-line "A time entry has exceeded X hours Y minutes of continuous run time. Please review and take corrective action." |
| Missed-attestation reminders | Email, SMS, and Push checkboxes for employees with unattested entries. No duration field. Disabled unless Require employees to attest the time entries? is Yes. Details in Requiring Employees to Attest Their Time Entries. |
Note: A second early clock-in control lives on Time Tracking Settings > Schedule: "Prevent employees from clocking in [N] minutes prior to shift starts" (up to 360 minutes) for employees who have a published shift. Use the Time Clocks setting above for unscheduled or no-shift clock-ins and the Schedule setting for early arrivals to a scheduled shift. See Schedule Settings and Notifications.
Click Save and Publish when you are done.
Expected outcome
- Employees can punch only on the platforms you enabled, within the restrictions you set.
- Forgotten clock-outs surface automatically through the flag and the reminders instead of at approval time.
Tip: Enable the missing clock-out flag and both long-running reminders. Together they turn a period-end clean-up into a daily two-minute check. See Approving Timesheets and Syncing Hours to Payroll.
Common problems
The kiosk won't let anyone log in
Work through these in order:
- Clear the kiosk browser's cache and cookies, reload kiosk.uzio.com, and try again. This resolves most kiosk login failures. Chrome responds most reliably; Safari less so.
- Delete the kiosk and add it back. Remove the entry under Time Clocks > Kiosk, click Add Kiosk, and activate the device again with the new 8-character code. The login method is locked per kiosk, so recreate it with the method you want.
- Still failing? See Still stuck? below.
The kiosk device is down. How do employees punch in the meantime?
Enable Web or Mobile on this tab and save. The change applies to every employee on time tracking, company-wide, so switch it back off when the kiosk is repaired if you do not want those platforms in general use. Alternatively, record the day through manual time entries on the employees' detailed timesheets; those follow your normal approval workflow.
An employee never got their kiosk PIN
Use Send Kiosk PIN on the employee's record. Before you do, check that their work email and mobile number are correct on their employee record; the PIN goes to those. On standard accounts you can also view the PIN or set a new one with Reset Kiosk PIN. On DSP accounts the PIN is masked and resend is the only admin action; the employee can also use Forgot PIN on the kiosk.
An employee says "Your employer has restricted clock-ins"
The message "Your employer has restricted clock-ins. Please contact your manager or HR if you have any concern." (clock-out and break variants exist) means the platform they punched from has one of the sub-restrictions above enabled (restrict only clock in / only clock out / only break in and out) on Mobile or Web. Point the employee to the platform you do allow, or adjust the restriction here.
Still stuck?
If a kiosk still refuses logins after a cache clear and a re-activation, please reach out to us at support@uzio.com or call +1-571-601-1752. Give UZIO Support the kiosk name, the device model and browser, the activation code you used, and the exact text employees see when a login fails. Do not send employee PINs.
DSP note: Amazon Delivery Service Partner home pages carry time-tracking compliance widgets (Manager Override Percentage, consecutive-days analysis, daily and weekly hour indicators). See DSP on UZIO: What's Different.
