Purpose
Employees who work where there is no signal, such as a warehouse floor, a basement, or a delivery route, can still clock in and out on the UZIO Mobile App when offline mode is enabled. Punches are stored on the device and sent to UZIO automatically when the connection returns. Only a limited set of actions works offline, and this article explains what does, what happens on sync, and how conflicts are resolved.
Who can do this: users with permission to manage Time Tracking settings (typically the Employer Admin) turn the feature on. Employees perform the offline actions in the UZIO Mobile App.
Prerequisites
- Mobile is enabled as a time clock on Time Tracking Settings > Time Clocks. The offline setting is shown only when Mobile is on.
Enable offline time tracking
- Open Time Tracking Settings > Time Clocks.
- Set Enable employees to track time without an internet connection? to Yes.
- Save.
What employees can do offline
Offline mode covers punches only:
- Clock In
- Break In
- Break Out
- Clock Out
Everything else is unavailable until the device reconnects. The app keeps the employee on the time-tracking page while offline; other pages are blocked. Employer actions, such as approving hours or syncing to payroll, are never available offline.
How offline mode works
- While offline, the app shows an Offline tag.
- Each punch is stored in the device's local memory in the order it happened.
- When the connection is restored, the app sends the stored punches to UZIO automatically. This usually takes 10 to 15 seconds, and a spinner at the top right of the app shows progress.
- Synced entries then appear on the employee's timesheet and on your Employees Timesheet page exactly like online punches.
Note: Until the device syncs, the employee's entry does not exist in UZIO. If a timecard looks empty for someone who says they worked, an unsynced device is the first thing to check. See Reviewing and Correcting Your Team's Timesheets.
Conflicts on sync
A conflict occurs when a punch recorded offline overlaps an entry recorded online before the device reconnected. Example: an employee clocks in offline on the app, then clocks in again from the web portal. When the phone reconnects, the offline entry overlaps the online one and cannot be saved.
The app marks the offline entry as Conflict and does not sync it. The employee resolves it in the app:
- Edit the offline entry so it no longer overlaps. The app then syncs it automatically.
- Discard the offline entry. It is removed from the mobile timesheet and never reaches UZIO.
An employer cannot see or resolve a conflict; it exists only on the device. If the employee discards an entry that represented real work, add the time manually on their detailed timesheet with a note.
