Viewing Your Benefit Proposals

Purpose

Your benefits package in UZIO is built and managed by your broker. Your portal gives you full visibility into what has been proposed and what is being offered to your employees. This article explains where to find your proposals, how to read what is in them, and what changes in UZIO once a proposal is shared.

Who can do this: the Employer Administrator, and any user whose role includes Benefits access. Of the roles UZIO ships with, Benefit Admins have full Benefits access; HR & Benefit Support and Payroll Support can view proposals and enrollments but not act on them. See Managing Users and Roles.

Who does what

TaskWho
Create plans, load rates, build the proposalYour broker
Set the contribution strategy, benefit classes, and waiting periods inside the proposalYour broker
Review what is proposed and ask for changesYou, through your broker
Monitor enrollments and act on behalf of employees when neededYou. See Tracking Open Enrollment and Completing an Enrollment for an Employee

Anything you want changed goes to your broker: a plan added or removed, a rate question, a different contribution split, a different waiting period. The broker edits the proposal on their side. UZIO Support cannot change a proposal for you.

Your broker may share a proposal with you for review before it goes to employees. Review it and tell your broker whether it is correct. Once your broker shares it with employees, enrollment opens on the dates set in the proposal.

Where to find your proposals

  1. Go to Benefits > Benefits Proposals in the left navigation.
  2. The page lists every proposal your broker has shared with you. Use the Coverage Start Date filter to narrow the list to one plan year.

Each row shows:

ColumnWhat it shows
NameThe proposal's name, usually the package name your broker gave it (for example "Acme Corp Benefit Package 2026")
Coverage BeginsThe date coverage under this proposal takes effect
Created ByWho built it (your broker)
StatusWhere the proposal stands
ActionsOpens the proposal so you can review it

Note: If nothing has been shared, the page reads "No proposal has been shared with you". Proposals appear here only after your broker shares one. If you are expecting a proposal and do not see it, ask your broker to share it.

Reading a proposal

These are the parts of a proposal that drive your costs and your employees' eligibility. Review each one with the same care as the plans themselves.

Plans and rates. The carriers, plan options, and premium rates offered in each category: medical, dental, vision, supplemental (critical illness, accident, cancer, hospital indemnity), tax savings (HSA, FSA, HRA, DCAP, commuter), and life and disability. Coverage dates can differ per benefit; medical and vision can start on different dates.

Contribution strategy. How the premium splits between the company and the employee. For example, the company pays 80% of employee-only medical coverage and a smaller share of dependent coverage. Your broker sets this per benefit, and can vary it by benefit class. This split is what produces the deduction on each employee's paycheck.

Benefit classes. Employee groupings such as full-time versus part-time, or hourly versus salaried. Each class can be offered different plans, contributions, and waiting periods. Every employer has at least a Default class. Your portal also has a Benefits > Manage Benefits Classes page; what you can change there, and how a change interacts with a shared proposal, is not yet documented in this help center. Speak to your broker before changing a class.

Waiting periods. How long a new hire must be employed before coverage starts. UZIO computes the new hire's coverage effective date as Date of Hire + the benefit's waiting period. Your broker chooses from these options, and can set a different one per benefit and per class:

  • On the date of employment
  • 30, 60, or 90 days following the date of employment
  • On the first day of the month following the date of employment
  • On the first day of the month following 30 or 60 days of employment
  • On the day following a custom number of days
  • On the first day of the month following a custom number of days

The waiting period decides when coverage starts. How many days the new hire gets to make their elections is a separate setting in your own portal: Settings > Employer Preferences > "How many calendar days should a special enrollment period be opened for a new hire?" See Managing Employer Preferences.

Tip: Check the waiting period against your employee handbook before enrollment opens. A mismatch here is the most common reason a new hire's coverage date surprises everyone, and fixing it after the fact means correcting the hire's census record and having the enrollment reset.

What changes after a proposal is shared

  • Employees are invited to enroll. Your employees receive an enrollment email on the schedule in the proposal. Track progress in Tracking Open Enrollment.
  • Payroll deductions start flowing. If you run payroll in UZIO, each submitted enrollment creates a benefit deduction and employer contribution on the employee's payroll record, dated from the coverage effective date. For this to work, a company-level deduction with Auto-Sync set to Yes must exist for each benefit type. See Setting Up Company Level Deductions. If you run payroll elsewhere, use the Payroll Deduction Report or the Paycor integration.
  • Mid-year edits by your broker do not correct past paychecks. If your broker changes a rate or a contribution after enrollment has opened, UZIO adjusts the premium in each affected employee's latest enrollment and gives your broker a list of impacted employees. Paychecks already processed are not corrected automatically. Review those employees' deductions with your payroll administrator.

Common problems

Why is the Benefits Proposals page empty? No proposal has been shared with your company yet. Proposals appear only after your broker shares one. Contact your broker.

Why don't I see a Benefits menu at all? Either your role has no Benefits access, or the Benefits module is not enabled for your company. Ask your Employer Administrator to check your role under Manage Users. If the Employer Administrator does not see the menu either, the module is not enabled; see Still stuck? below.

An employee says the plans offered to them are wrong. Check which benefit class the employee is in and compare it with the proposal's class setup. Plans and contributions are offered per class. If the employee is in the wrong class, correct their census record and tell your broker; the broker resets the enrollment so the employee sees the right plans. If the class is right but the plans are wrong, the proposal itself needs a change from your broker.

Still stuck?

Most proposal questions belong with your broker: they own the plans, rates, contributions, classes, and waiting periods. Contact UZIO Support only if the Benefits menu is missing for the Employer Administrator, which means the module is not enabled for your company. Please reach out to us at support@uzio.com or call +1-571-601-1752. Include your company name and a screenshot of your left navigation.
