UZIO Payroll Enhancements

Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Codes for Payroll Compliance Reporting

SOC codes are a federal statistical standard used by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to categorize workers into occupational categories. These codes are crucial for collecting and analyzing data on employment trends, wages, and skills across different industries and regions. Each occupation has a unique six-digit code that reflects its specific duties and skills.

Some states, such as Alaska, Louisiana, South Carolina, Washington, and Indiana (though not mandatory for Indiana), require employers to include the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes for their employees based on their occupation on their quarterly payroll returns (i.e., SUTA returns).

To comply with these state requirements, we have introduced a feature to set up the SOC codes on employee payroll profiles. It is crucial to have this information on the employee profile if the employee's work state is any of these states; otherwise, the system may not allow the payroll to be processed.

Reseller Partner Enhancements: New Tools for Streamlined Payroll Management

UZIO has enhanced its system to empower reseller partners with greater control over certain system tasks that were previously managed by the UZIO Customer Service team. This update marks a significant step towards enabling our partners to manage payroll setup for their clients independently. The new features include:

Edit/Approve Company Bank Details: Reseller partners can now update company bank details directly. Any changes made by them will be automatically approved, streamlining the process without requiring verification or approval from UZIO CSRs.

Void Payments: Reseller partners will have the ability to void employee payments, providing them with greater flexibility and control over payroll management.

To void employee payments:

  1. Go to Payroll History
  2. Select Void Payments from the Actions.

  1. On click of Void Payroll option in the Actions, you will be directed to the list of employees paid out in the payroll. You can select one or more employee payments, and click on the Void button to void them.

  1. Once you have voided the payments, a new void payroll will be created with negative values. However, if you need to recover any payment already made to the employees, it must be done outside of the system.

We are committed to ongoing enhancements and look forward to introducing more features that empower our partners to better serve their clients in the future.

UZIO Time Off Enhancements

PTO Policy Accrual Maximum Available to Setup For Each Tenure

The UZIO PTO module includes a feature that allows employees to earn different amounts of PTO based on certain milestones in their tenure with the company. However, with this existing feature, Time Off policy maximum accruals were fixed at the policy level, making it challenging to customize maximum accruals based on years of service or milestones. This limitation meant that the maximum accrual was applied uniformly across all accrual levels within a policy.

Based on customer feedback, UZIO Time Off has introduced a new feature that enhances flexibility in accrual management by allowing different maximum accruals for various levels within the same policy. Admins can now set up multiple levels of accruals, each with its own maximum, tailored to the needs of clients to accrue PTO differently based on their milestones achieved.

In the screenshot below, two levels of accruals have been set up: one for employees with less than 3 years of experience and one for employees with 3 or more years of experience. For both levels, different accrual maximums have been set up.

If the maximum accrual has been reached under one accrual level, accrual will stop until the balance is reset. Additionally, if an employee's maximum accrual was 20 hours in the previous milestone and they have accrued only 18 hours so far, the system will calculate that they can still accrue 12 more hours to reach the new limit of 30 hours in the new accrual level.

Miscellaneous Enhancements

SSN Mandatory for Employees of Payroll Client

Social Security number (SSN) is now mandatory to be maintained on employees’ profiles for clients who use Uzio payroll services. While this has always been a mandatory attribute for processing payroll from day one, it has been updated to be collected upfront when adding an employee record. This change ensures that all necessary information is collected upfront, streamlining the payroll processing.

SSN Modification Restrictions for Employees

Once an employee has completed the onboarding process, they will not have the ability to change their Social Security Number (SSN) using the self-service feature. However, administrators retain the capability to modify an employee's SSN as needed. This restriction ensures the integrity and accuracy of employee records, preventing unauthorized changes to sensitive information.

Updated Work Location Selection for Adding Employees

Previously, when adding an employee record, the work location defaulted employees to either Headquarters or a primary location if not specified. With this product update, a change has been implemented to no longer default employees to any location. Instead, the user adding the employee must select the applicable location, as it is now mandatory information during the employee addition process.
