UZIO Product Updates, July 2020

Modified on Sun, 20 Sep at 4:45 AM

Here are the latest product enhancements UZIO has introduced in the July release:

Benefits Administration Enhancements

Automated Processing of Child Dependents Aging Out of Coverage

UZIO has introduced a new feature that will assist you with processing life status events for your employees.  When an employee’s child dependent reaches a certain age, they may not be eligible to continue being covered under their parent’s insurance.  When this happens, a life status change will be filed in the UZIO system to record this change.

With this new feature, rules can be configured to have the system automatically process these coverage changes when a child is no longer eligible.  The following steps can be used to configure the rules for an employer:

  • Navigate to the employer Settings page. Here, you will see a new option, Automated Events.
  • To turn on the automated feature, click the edit icon, then the Yes radio button.
  • The page will ask the age that a child dependent will become ineligible. If children can become ineligible at different ages depending on the product type, the age can be adjusted by product by selecting “Adjust age by benefits”.

  • Once the ages have been entered, click Update at the bottom of the page to save these rules.
  • The system is now configured to automatically dis-enroll child dependents when they reach the configured ages.
  • Email notifications will be sent to employees 30 days before a child is removed from coverage. Another notification will be sent to an employee the day the child is removed from coverage.

Ability to View Usernames for Registered Users

Broker and employer users will now be able to view usernames for users.  This will help when employees or employer users have forgotten what email they used to register with on UZIO.  The new option will appear in the Actions drop-down next to a user.

UZIO Payroll Enhancements

Payroll Grid

To enhance and improve the experience of processing payroll, a new feature called the payroll grid has been introduced.  This grid will appear when starting the payroll for the current pay period.

All the company earnings specific to an employer will appear in this grid, and can be modified by clicking in a specific field then entering the custom amount.  There is also a payroll grid excel template that can be downloaded.  This template can also be modified with the custom wage, then uploaded to the system.

Employee Self Service Capabilities

  • Employees will be able to set up tax withholding information for federal and state as a self service feature on the “My Payroll” tab.
  • During the tax withholding setup process, employees will be able to reference blank versions of tax forms to assist with filing the information correctly in UZIO.
  • Once set up, electronic copies of Federal and State forms will be generated and will be available for future reference to the employees under “My Documents”.
  • Similarly, direct deposit information can also be set up by employees in self service mode.

Workers’ Compensation Setup

  • Employers can now track the payroll dollars by Workers’ Compensation class code for each employee per payroll run, which will eventually help them to calculate Workers’ Compensation premium off the platform.
  • In order to accomplish this, the first step will be to set up all the class codes at the Company level.

  • Once company level codes are set up, the final step will be to tag the correct code to each employee in their respective employee profiles.

  • UZIO will now start tracking the payroll wages with the respective class code tagged to each employee. This can be viewed by downloading a new report “Workers’ Compensation Wages Report”.

New Covid-19 Master Earning Code

The new Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) requires many small businesses to provide paid sick and family/medical leave in response to COVID-19. Eligible employers may then receive tax credits for the leave wages paid. To facilitate this, Uzio has added three new hour types to use when the employers need to pay employees who are unable to work or need to take care of their family due to COVID-19. New Covid related earning codes have been added viz.

  • COVID 100 Sick: To be used when paying employees at their full regular rate due to their own personal need to quarantine or isolate.
  • COVID ⅔ Sick: To be used when paying employees at ⅔ their regular rate if they are caring for someone who must quarantine or isolate.
  • COVID Family Leave: To be used when caring for children as a result of school/daycare being closed.

The employer portion of Social Security taxes are exempt on these payments. Employees will still have their normal income taxes withheld.
