Purpose
Three ways to change who works a shift: swap it, give it away, or pick up one that nobody is assigned to. All three stay within your work location, and none of them changes a schedule until your manager approves.
Who can do this: Any employee enrolled in time tracking and scheduling. The three actions are available in the UZIO mobile app, and on the employee web schedule where your employer has scheduling turned on. The steps below use the mobile app's screen names.
| You have a shift you can't work | You want more hours | |
|---|---|---|
| Swap — trade with a coworker's shift | Yes | |
| Offer — give your shift away | Yes | |
| Claim — take an open (unassigned) shift | Yes |
Swap a shift
Open Schedule > My Shifts, tap the shift, then tap Swap. You see the swappable shifts at your work location, and you can filter by employee. Select one or more, then tap Send Request. The request goes to the coworkers assigned to those shifts.
Offer a shift
Open Schedule > My Shifts, tap the shift, then tap Offer. Pick one or more coworkers at your work location and tap Offer Shift. Each coworker you selected is notified.
Claim an open shift
Open Schedule > Open Shifts to see the unassigned shifts created for your work location. Tap Claim on the tile, or the Claim button in the shift's detail view. The request goes straight to your manager; no coworker is involved.
Claim Requests underneath shows your claims with their status, pending or rejected, and lets you Cancel a pending claim to recall it. Once a claim is approved, the shift is assigned to you and appears on your schedule.
Responding to and tracking requests
Schedule > Shift Requests has a Swap tab and an Offer tab, each split into two sections:
- Incoming Requests — what coworkers sent you. Accept or Reject each one. Accepting forwards it to your manager and the status becomes Pending Manager's Approval. You can still withdraw with Cancel Request while it is pending. A request you reject shows Rejected.
- Your Requests — what you sent. Cancel Request recalls any of them until the manager approves. If a coworker declines, the status is Rejected by Team Member. Once a coworker accepts, it becomes Pending Manager's Approval. If the manager declines, it becomes Rejected by Manager.
What approval changes
Nothing moves on either schedule until a manager or admin approves. On approval, both schedules update at once and everyone involved is notified. From that point the shift belongs to its new owner for every purpose: clock-in restrictions, shift reminders and the hours on your timesheet all follow the new assignment.
Notifications
Tap the bell icon at the top right of the More page for in-app notifications; unread ones carry an orange dot. Tapping a shift-publish, claim or swap/offer notification opens the schedule. Swipe left to clear one, or use Clear All. Push notifications also reach your device if you granted permission.
DSP note: If you work for an Amazon Delivery Service Partner, your manager's approval of a claim, offer or swap runs a work-hours compliance check against the 12-hour daily and 60-hour rolling seven-day limits. A request that would push you over a limit can be flagged, so approval is not guaranteed even after a coworker has accepted.
Common problems
Why can't I swap or offer my shift?
The window closes once the shift is underway:
- "You cannot swap or offer a shift that has already started." The start time has passed. Talk to your manager; they can reassign it on the scheduler.
- "You cannot swap or offer this shift because you have clocked in." You have already punched in to it, so it is yours for the day.
Both actions only reach coworkers at your work location. Someone at another location will not appear in the list.
Why can't I claim an open shift?
"Shift overlaps with existing shift" means you already have a shift in that time window, and you cannot hold two at once.
If the shift disappears, or your claim is refused because the shift is already assigned, another coworker's claim was approved first. One claim wins and every other pending claim on that shift is automatically rejected, and you are notified. Neither outcome is an error. Try another open shift.
My coworker accepted, but the request still failed
Manager approval is a real check, not a formality. It is refused if anyone involved has already clocked in to a shift being moved, or if the change would leave someone with overlapping shifts, for example because you picked up another shift in the meantime. When that happens the schedule stays exactly as it was.
My request is stuck at "Pending Manager's Approval"
Until a manager or admin acts, nothing changes on either schedule. There is no automatic approval, not even for a same-day request. If the shift is close, message your manager directly. You can still use Cancel Request at any point before they approve.
